Pricing

Transparent and sliding scale pricing.

The scale

Pricing tiers

What changes between tiers is what you pay and what your money does, never the quality of what you get.

The three pricing tiers: who each tier is for, what each pays relative to cost, and what each tier's money does.
Tier Who it's for What you pay What your money does
Movement Grassroots groups, very small orgs, and artists paying out of pocket. Below cost The work this studio exists for. Funded by the Institutional tier, so slots are capped by what we can actually carry.
Standard Established nonprofits, funded projects, and mid-sized organizations. True cost Keeps the studio running and independent.
Institutional Well-resourced institutions and values-aligned commercial work. Above cost Funds the Movement tier, on purpose and in the open.

If Movement slots are full when you write, we will say so and tell you when one opens. We would rather say "not yet" than do the work badly.

Place yourself. We take your word.

Organizations

Weigh four things, honestly, and pick the tier that fits:

  • Your annual budget.
  • Your highest-paid salary.
  • Your grant funding.
  • For-profit or nonprofit.

Individuals & artists

Pay the amount that you can manage without causing you hardship.

We will never ask for proof. No pay stubs, no budgets, no books. It is the same posture we take with your data: trust over surveillance.

Art and shared tools play by different rules.

  • Interactive art

Funded work prices by the funder, not by you. If a grant, commission, or institution is behind the piece, the tier follows their resources, and you never price yourself.

No funding yet? Then we are collaborators, not vendor and client: shared credit, shared ambition, and when it makes sense, a joint funding application. Talk to us before you think about money.

  • Common needs

Many groups need the same thing. When your need is common, we build it once as an open-source platform and fit it to your needs. You pay for our labor at your tier, never for software.

And if a group before you needed it too, you pay only for the fitting, which costs less. We will tell you when that is the case.

The short list

What you will never pay us for.

  • Software. Everything we build is open source: free to everyone, forever, including groups that never hire us.
  • The same work twice. If it already exists, you pay to fit it, not to rebuild it.
  • Marked-up infrastructure. Hosting and domains are billed at cost, in accounts you own from day one.

Tell us about your project.

Tell us what you are building, who it is for, and where you think you land on the scale. If you guess wrong, nothing bad happens.
